The History of Corona
Corona is located in the San Gabriel Valley in the Inland Empire of Southern California. Corona was originally founded as South Riverside by the South Riverside Land and Water Company in 1886. Corona has a fantastic location at the top of the Santa Ana River Canyon and was originally known for its lemon production. Corona is named for its circular streets, specifically Grand Boulevard which has even hosted several international automobile races in the early 1900s. Corona was incorporated in 1896, the same year that its name was changed from South Riverside to Corona. As the lemon industry died down, Corona became a major suburb of Los Angeles and boasts some very nice homes and other real estate. In 2002, the city considered succession from Riverside to form Corona county, but the proposal failed and Corona remains a part of Riverside county to this day.
